Christmas 'Abroad'

Amongst the bag of glitter Pickle brought home from school today was this masterpiece. I remembered her teacher telling me they were covering Christmas in 'foreign' countries .

Me: This is a lovely picture, what is it of Pickle?

Pickle : Can't remember.

Me : Is it Christmas in another country?

Pickle : YES!

Me: Which country is it Pickle?

Pickle: Um, um, N, N, NORFOLK!

Me: Do you mean Norway Pickle?

Pickle: YES!

Norfolk IS a foreign country though isn't it?

As never seen before....

This is 'Baby Jesus', as made by Picklessister, from Marzipan, in Food Technology (or whatever Home Ec is called nowadays) We are unsure why he has a beak!

This is a snowman also made by Picklessister today. Looks like he may have melted a bit!

A very brave Pickle.....

On Friday evening, Pickle had her pre-school booster injections.

As a parent this is not an easy decision to make. There is so much 'out there' about the possible side effects of the MMR vaccination, it is incredibly difficult to know what is the best thing to do.

We had Picklessister vaccinated and Pickle had an MMR jab when she was 13 months old, so we decided to have the pre-school vaccinations too. The proven facts about Mumps, Measles and Rubella are too strong to ignore.

We told Pickle what would happen, I don't believe in tricking her into going to the nurse. There were a few days when she said she would not have it done, but on Friday evening she proudly told her sister that she was having injections and she would get a present if she was brave. (I said I believed in not tricking her, I never ruled out blackmail!)

Pickle was happy in the waiting room, even getting impatient when it wasn't her turn.

The whole Pickle family descended into the nurses room (a total of 6 people including nurses), Picklesdad had the honour of holding Pickle on his lap and stopping her arms from moving. The nurses distracted Pickle with some stickers and on a count of three they injected her in both arms.

I waited in the corner waiting for the blood curdling scream, NOTHING, not a peep did Pickle make. There was not so much as a single tear, well not from Pickle anyway. Picklesmum was blubbing away in her corner.

The nurses were very impressed and said Pickle was the first one that day not to have cried.

What a brave Pickle. What a wussy Mummy!

Christmas is coming....

At last we have our tree, I was feeling very jealous after seeing 21st Century Mummy's tree on her blog when I hadn't got mine. So Picklesdad was sent into the forest to get ours.
Unfortunately it was pouring with rain, and the helpful gentleman who was wrapping the tree in the clever netting stuff, LAID THE TREE DOWN IN A PUDDLE!
Honestly what was he thinking of. The tree had to be hosed down outside before we could bring it in, making it even wetter, if that was possible.

Also Pickle has taken part in her school play, and YES it was a semi-traditional nativity play. There was a Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Sheep, 3 Wise Men, Angels and some fantastic STARS!

Picklesdad worked extremely hard on Pickles costume and she was the only star with battery operated lights on her costume!
Please note the brilliant gold stars which were my contribution to the ensemble.

Pickle sang all the songs beautifully and didn't even slip into Old MacDonald during Jingle Bells like she usually does.

"Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way,
Oh, McDonald had a farm......."

Picklesmum has a School Lunch

Today I was invited with 7 other Mum's to a meeting with Pickles new teacher. From January, Pickle will be going to school FULL TIME - SOB! So today we met the headteacher, the reception teacher and most excitingly got to try a school lunch!

It was a day I have been wary of as Pickle is not known for her wide range of food consumption. Luckily they had cucumber so she was very happy. She ate this as well as a Yorkshire Pudding and her first COOKED carrot since she was an ickle Pickle! She was not keen on the bread as there was no salt in it (healthy eating) but she enjoyed the strawberry yogurt.

Picklesmum had cheese quiche, mashed potato (also without any salt), carrots and sweetcorn and 2 pieces of something crunchy with custard. Unfortunately it was not chocolate crunch but still nice all the same. It is nice to eat a meal I haven't cooked, even if it was only a school dinner.

Pickle will not be having a cooked school lunch very often, as I feel £1.80 for a piece of cucumber is a bit steep, plus she has already got her bright pink 'Bratz' lunchbox ready for January.

Let's see how it goes...

I'm still not sure about this. I have seen from the comments lots of people have enjoyed reading the blog and I really appreciate all the nice comments you have left.
I understand not everyone feels the same about everything that I do and that is the way it should be, even I don't like Crocs sometimes.

However I will not apologise to ANYONE for being a full time/stay at home Mum. I enjoy bringing up my children full time and am lucky enough to be in a position where I can 'not work' outside of the home.
So if THOSE people who don't like my blog can't accept that then they can go read someone else's instead and leave mine alone.
